  • Overview Of Lcd Projectors

Typical LCD Projectors have separate glass panels for red, green , and blue components of the image signal being fed into it. These individual pixels can be opened or closed thereby modulating the light which then produces the images onto the screen.

Its advantages include its affordable price, brightness capability, and having less power consumption. The LCD Projectors delivers better color saturation and reproduction - meaning there is a richer display of color. Also it is more light efficient since it produces a higher ANSI lumen output than that with a DLP projector with the same wattage lamp.

One of its limitations though is what is commonly called a "screen door effect" or the "chicken wire" effect in which the pixels can be visible on a large screen. Also if one pixel burns out, it will show on the projection, a black or white dot. These individual pixels can't be replaced, thus the entire LCD chip would have to be replaced.

LCD projectors also have a finite number of pixels which becomes an impediment if the signal inputs require a pixel field count higher than that of the LCD chip - something the CRT projector has no problem accommodating.

At around 1,000 to 2,000 hours usage of the LCD projector bulb, it then has to be replaced. A cooling fan is also needed for the LCD projector since it produces more heat. Such cooling fans may cause unwanted noise which becomes an irritation during such use.

There are 3 developments though of the technology of LCD projectors that somehow addresses its flaws and inherent limitations. One is the step-up to a higher resolution, then another is the lessening of the gap between pixels, and lastly, is the use of Micro Lens Array (MLA) which reduces pixel visibility. With the MLA, pixel grid can also be softened by adjusting the focus a slight hair off perfect. Improvement of contrast ratios of at least 800:1 is better than those LCD projectors of the previous years.

LCD projectors vary in size from mid-size to small, and its weight from medium to light weight. Weight range is around 20 kilos for medium and around 3 kilos for light weight.

LCD projectors are compact and practical to use. Operation of these LCD projectors has become standardized & user-friendly. These are usually suited for business presentations as it is portable, and provides the basic features needed for a usual normal presentation. These LCD projectors have become a popular choice for either home or office use.
